Remedial massage Q&A

If I'm in pain, can you see me right away?
We will do our very best to fit you in as quickly as we can as we know that being in pain is an awful state to be in. If you are in pain you really need to consider having more than just one treatment though- some people do feel like they get the "quick fix" from having a one hour remedial massage- but more than likely you should follow it up about a week later to keep you pain at bay. Then try to do it once a month or as you feel you need it.

Can I have a massage if I'm injured?
Open wounds, bruises and inflamed areas cannot be massaged however brand new sprains or injuries should be avoided for the first 72 hours. Other than the initial 72 hour period- after which swelling and pain begin to subside- then you can come in and have a remedial massage to speed up your recovery time.

How long should a remedial massage take?
You should have a one hour massage to get the maximum benefits. If you want a shorter time you should only request a specific area to be worked on for example your legs- and even then it may not be as thorough as a treatment that you would normally get. An hour will allow us to warm up the muscles appropriately, have time to stretch and use more techniques to get longer lasting results.

How often should I have a remedial massage?
It depends on how much pain you are in. If it's a long standing problem then come in ideally once a week (no more than that) and then slow it down as you make good progress. For generally body maintenance once a month is perfect.

Does remedial massage hurt?
It doesn't have to. There is a big difference between feeling "good pain" and a "bad pain". You don't have to be brave and go through excruciating pain whilst having a massage- that's pointless. If you don't want much pressure or you would like a lot either way that is fine as long it does not exceed that "good pain" threshold. You would be amazed at how having effective massage is even without having us put our elbows through your chest.

Will my private health insurance rebate the session?
Yes- if you have the right cover. The majority of insurers will have cover for massage now and we issue you a receipt to pass onto your insurer who will then reimburse you directly. Check with your provider for how much exactly you get back per session but it is usually around $20-$30 per massage.
